A funding programme to aid manufacturing businesses has been launched by Economic Growth Solutions, as part of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The £9.7 million Manufacturing Growth Programme (MGP) will be introduced to replace the now-defunct Manufacturing Advisory Service, which closed down just over a year ago.
The MGP will provide firms with assistance in leadership, R&D, lean manufacturing and productivity, and grants of up to £3,500 will be made available.
Chief executive of Economic Growth Solutions, Lorraine Holmes, said: “Since MAS was abruptly axed at the end of 2015, manufacturers have not had access to a support programme that is tailored to their exact requirements and delivered by people who know the sector.
“This has all changed with the official launch of MGP and we now have funding in place to help firms tackle operational issues, make the most of new opportunities and boost the skills of their workforce.
The programme will be run until March 2019 and will be run with local enterprise parnerships to ensure that businesses are educated on other intiatives that may help.
